Job Description

Cardinal State, LLC is seeking persons interested in a career in estimating as a Landscape Construction Estimator. Cardinal State, LLC provides a full array of landscape construction, stream and shoreline restoration, ecological restoration, and green infrastructure services to clients in the private and public sectors throughout the greater Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin area.
The project estimator will be the point person on projects in the burgeoning field of landscape construction and ecological restoration. Duties will include site visits and assessments, client meetings and communication, and preparation of estimates and proposals. Plan preparation may involve designing site plans, plant lists, etc. This person will also be responsible for client follow-up and will remain abreast of each project’s progress. Clients include general contractors, public agencies, local conservation groups, homeowners associations, developers and private landowners.

Responsibilities:

  1. Develop estimating process that integrates, improves or replaces existing processes.

  2. Conduct project estimating for all projects and bids

  3. Communicate with Production, Subcontractors, and Vendors to establish pricing standards

  4. Work with Sales and Implementation teams to develop job costing and quality control processes

  5. Conduct site visits prior to beginning plans or proposals (when required)

  6. Accurately survey and record existing site conditions

  7. Assemble client and project information relevant to completing a plan or proposal, including revisions

  8. Perform basic mathematical functions relating to seeding, herbicides, material use, etc.

  9. Bid all plant materials, hard materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractors to complete the project

  10. Read and comprehend complex bid packages, follow addenda and bonding procedures during bidding, follow communication and change order procedures during construction.

  11. Check all outgoing plans, proposals and correspondence for accuracy and good grammar

  12. Maintain an updated shared schedule.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in construction management, civil engineering, horticulture, biology, botany, ecology, conservation, environmental science, or related fields

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in the landscape construction or ecological restoration industries

  • Knowledge of the construction process and related services.

  • Knowledge of environmental/ecological field restoration techniques

  • Ability to use construction industry software (Bluebeam, etc.)
