Job Description
Cardinal State, LLC is seeking persons interested in a natural resources career, as an Ecological Restoration Foreman. Cardinal State, LLC provides a full array of landscape construction, stream and shoreline restoration, ecological restoration, and green infrastructure services to clients in the private and public sectors throughout the greater Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin area. A successful candidate for this position will have experience in the following areas: invasive plant species control, native plant and seed installation, stream and shoreline stabilization/restoration, prescribed burning, traditional landscape management, and other types of habitat restoration. This position is full-time but depends on workload and weather conditions. Overtime hours will be required during the peak construction/growing season. The majority of work is outdoors, often in inclement weather, in rugged terrain. This position will require extended periods of standing, walking, and lifting heavy objects up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities:
Lead ecological restorations crews on projects throughout a variety habitat/ecosystem types
Manage and train crew staff in plant identification and best management practices and techniques
Communicate with the Project Managers and Operations Manager on scheduling and project progress
Be the point contact for Cardinal State, LLC in the field, communicating client expectations and interactions to the Project Managers
Assess site conditions and vegetation quality and direct the crews to appropriately and effectively manage sites on a daily basis
Interpret contract plan sets and specifications in order to ensure compliance with project standards and client expectations/goals
Complete daily stewardship reports accurately and submit to Project Mangers on a timely basis
Oversee the inventory, maintenance, and organizations of materials and field equipment used on restoration and land management projects. Communicate to Project Managers and Operation Manager when equipment needs servicing or material inventory is low
Qualifications:
A degree in biology, botany, ecology, conservation, environmental science, or related fields is preferred
2+ years of experience in the field conducting ecological restoration activities
Agriculture Certified Pesticide Applicator License
Strong native and non-native plant identification skills both herbaceous and woody
Ability to safely operate and maintain all field equipment including but not limited to a 4x4 ATV/UTV with spray rig, backpack sprayers, chain saws, and brush saws.
Prescribed burn experience and S130/S190 certifications or willingness to get them within 3 months of starting
